OLYMPIC MEDALIST – SWIMMING

Olympic Medalist Samuel Alapai Kahanamoku was born and raised in Honolulu (Waikiki). Kahanamoku was one of the nation’s top sprint swimmers in the 1920s. At the 1924 Summer Olympics in Paris, he finished 3rd in the 100 meters Free style with a time of 1:01:8 seconds, behind Duke, his older brother.

Kahanamoku passed away on April 26, 1966.
