WORLD CHAMPION – SURFING

Three-time Association of Surfing Professional (ASP) world champion Philip Andrew “Andy” Irons was born in Lihue and learned to surf at the age of 8 at Pine Trees Beach, located on the north shore of Kauai. His competitive spirit drove him to win three National Scholastic Surfing Association Championships prior to graduating from Kapaa High School in 1996. At age 17, Irons won the HIC Pipeline Pro and then qualified for the ASP tour at the age of 20.

Irons went on to win three consecutive ASP world championships in 2002, 2003 and 2004 and competed until his untimely death in November 2010.
