J. Ashman Beaven
J. Ashman Beaven arrived in Honolulu in 1910. In 1912, he established the O’ahu Baseball League, O’ahu Service Athletic League and the Catholic Youth Organization.
In 1925, he purchased 14 fee simple acres at the ‘ewa/makai corner of King and Isenberg streets and built the Honolulu Stadium. From 1925 to 1939, he was general manager of the
stadium.
He brought teams from Japan and Korea to play baseball in Hawai’i, and, between 1933 and 1934, brought baseball celebrities such as Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig and Jimmy Foxx, to entertain Hawai’i’s sports fans.
