PIONEER – PROFESSIONAL FOOTBALL

Charles Teetai Ane graduated from Punahou School in 1947. He went on to Compton Junior College in 1949 and was named to the Junior College All-American First Team. He transferred to the University of Southern California in 1950 and was named to the All-Pacific Coast First Team. He was an Honorable Mention All-American.

Ane was drafted by the Detroit Lions in the third round. The Lions won a world championship in 1953 and 1957.

He was selected to the NFL All-Pro Team three times (1956, ’57, ’58). In 1960, Ane was selected to the All-Time Detroit Lions Team.

Ane coached at Punahou, Kaimuki, Damien and Radford schools, and at St. Anthony’s on Maui. He was selected as the “Samoan Legend” in 1992 by the Samoan International Hall of Fame.
