SELECTION PROCESS
– Nominations can be made by any adult person (18 years or older), not affiliated with the Hawai’i Sports Hall of Fame.
– An Official Nomination Ballot for each year must be completed and submitted by the posted deadlines.
– Nominations must be submitted through the HSHF website only – manual entries are not acceptable.
– Nominations must be accompanied by an official nomination form and include appropriate documentation to be considered. A detailed resume and a non-returnable photo must accompany the nomination application. All information necessary to determine qualification for induction should be submitted, including newspaper clippings, articles, pictures and other documents that can be easily substantiated.
– All nominations will be reviewed by the Executive Committee. Additional research on nominees may be done prior to the Selection Committee review. Approved nominees will be submitted to the Selection Committee for consideration.
– Further reviews may be needed by the various Committees to determine qualification. Nominees may be contacted by members for additional data/information.
– Nominees forwarded to the Selection Committee for review will be eligible for induction for 5 years with no re-nomination necessary. The Selection Committee may need more information before disqualifying a nominee from consideration.
– A nominee will need to start the nomination process again after the 5-year time
period with a new application through the website.
– Nominees for induction must receive 80% approval of the Selection Committee for possible induction.
– Approved nominees by the Selection Committee will be forwarded to the Commissioners for final approval.
– Approved nominees must receive 100% approval by the Commissioners for Induction.
– Inductees will be contacted directly by the Executive Committee.
– Nominations will be HSHF property and maintained as necessary.
– The Selection/Executive Committees will maintain an Induction List. The purpose for the List is to recognize potential Hawai’i nominees for future induction consideration. The List maintains possible athletes/contributors – their possible qualifying category and eligibility.
– The list is for internal use only.
– Nominations via the website do NOT need to be on the Induction List. All nominee ballots will be reviewed (whether they are on the Induction List or not) by the Executive Committee for correctness, completeness and qualifying category.
– To be considered, a name on the Induction List must be nominated through the website as described above and go through the same process as any nominee not on the List.
