Clarence W. MacFarlane
Famed skipper and younger brother of George W. MacFarlane, Clarence W. MacFarlane was the court chamberlain to King David Kalakaua. In 1906, Clarence sailed the schooner La Paloma in the first transpacific yacht race from San Francisco to Hawai’i, a race that is still in existence today.
Clarence was active in politics as a Democrat and was a supporter of Hawaiian Royalty in the historic revolution in 1893. He was a member of the Sons of Kamehameha. From 1919-1920, Clarence was chairman of the Civil Service Commission and a member of the Honolulu Harbor Board.
