PIONEER – YOUTH SOCCER ORGANIZATION
Jack Sullivan
A love and passion for the sport of soccer and a desire to
develop Hawai’i’s youth to be competitive, nationally and
internationally, motivated Jack Sullivan to help organize the
local American Youth Soccer Organization (AYSO) in 1974.
He has been involved with soccer in Hawai’i for 30 years. As a
coach, organizer and promoter, he has been a driving force
behind the popularity of the sport in Hawai’i, growing in
number of players to over 28,000 youth.
His enthusiasm for the sport contributed greatly to the
building of the Waipio Peninsula Soccer Complex and the
attraction of numerous national and international youth
soccer tournaments to Hawai’i. In 2006, Jack Sullivan was
elected to the U.S. Adult Soccer Association Region IV Hall of
Fame, and in 2007, he was elected to the National Soccer
Hall of Fame. (Photo courtesy of the Honolulu Advertiser)
