CHARLES "CHUCK" EDWARD LEAHEY

(1919-1982)
Co-founder Rainbow Classic and Easter Baseball Tournament.

Charles "Chuck" Leahey’s long-time support of the University of Hawai'i (UH) Athletic Department is legendary.

In his position as sports director of Pearl Harbor, Leahey allowed the fledgling UH Rainbow Football Team to utilize Pearl Harbor’s Block Arena Field for pre-season training, beginning in 1968. His philosophy was that nothing was more important to the morale and welfare of servicemen stationed in Hawaii than to be a part of the local sports scene.

Leahey, along with Red Rocha, co-founded one of the nation’s most respected pre-season basketball classics, The Rainbow Classic, which is still one of the premier basketball tournaments in the nation. He also founded the equally prestigious Easter Rainbow Baseball Tournament.
