In 1993, Derek Ho became the first Association of Surfing Professionals (ASP) champion from Hawaii. He finished in the top 16 for the ASP Championships 9 times, including 2nd (1989) and 4th(1991).

Derek is a 4-time winner of the Triple Crown of Surfing championship (1984,1986,1988 & 1989), that concludes the ASP world tour on the North Shore of Oahu, HI.
