FRED HEMMINGS

(Born January 1946)
Hawaii’s first World Surfing Champion.

Fred Hemmings is a graduate of Punahou School. In January 1965, he became the youngest person to win the Makaha Senior Men’s International Surfing Championship. In 1968, he was crowned the World Surfing Champion in Rincon, Puerto Rico. Hemmings was inducted into the International Surfing Hall of Fame in 1991.

Hemmings currently serves as Hawai'i State Senate Minority Leader and he has been a successful businessman, television commentator, author and creator of the world famous Triple Crown of Surfing. He is one of the world’s foremost authorities of surfing and water sports.
