George "Dad" Center was one of Hawai'i's famous swim coaches.
He was assistant coach of the U.S. Swim Team at the 1920 Games in Antwerp, Belgium, where
Hawai'i swimmers finished in the first four places in the 100-meter free-style swim. He
also was a tireless fund-raiser, a stern taskmaster and an accomplished motivator for his
team.
